But what should be a carefully considered exercise may have caused significant harm to Tokyo’s territorial sovereignty, a potentially catastrophic situation, experts suggest.
“It is dangerous for Ja우리카지노pan to be involved in what is a highly sensitive dispute. An aggressor could take advantage of the situation to move forward on its military and economic ambitions in the South China Sea without any respect for international law, especially regarding the rules that regulate the international waters on which Japan sits,” said professor Takahiro Nishiyama, a territorial security expert at Hiroshima University.
“Japan has a very broad territory, and should be taking advantage of the various legal options available and not being the only one involved,” Nishiyama said.
The issue has caused concern even in Japan’s western seaboard, with many people viewing the Chinese as taking a similar approach to Japan.
“While there is certainly some concern about Japan’s involvement, it has yet to come to fruition. No one in the Tokyo Government seems to realize that it could have serious consequences,” said a source.
