Medical group backs health shake up of Australia’s medical drugs giant

New report calls out Melbourne drug giant Medtronic ‘out of step with the needs of our patients’

Medical marijuana advocacy group Medicinal Cannabis Australia has responded to concerns raised about the company by the Victorian government, calling on the Victorian Health Minister David Davis to scrap restrictions on its licensing of medicinal cannabis.

In a statement to Medtronic this morning, MEDCA said the Australian medical cannabis industry needed an end to restrictive licensing regime.

“We believe that the Victorian Health Minister should reverse his previous decision to continue to allow Medtronic to operate within the existing health screening, clinical testing and testing regime to the extent that the company is licensed to do so in our state,” MEDCA said.

The group said “medical marijuana patients who have experienced difficulties accessing their medication due to licensing restrictions should continue to continue to use products approved by the Australian Therapeutic Goods Administration (ATMA) and our research and development activities.”
