(CNN) — a federal judge ruled Monday that the University of North Carolina did not discriminate against candidates who have been White and Asian United states during the university’s undergraduate admissions process, per court documents.
The ruling will come following case filed in 2014 by the party pupils for reasonable Admissions, which argued UNC put race in admissions processes and that it deliberately discriminated against specific members based on battle and various other issues.
Inside the lawsuit, the class implicated UNC of “employing racial tastes in undergraduate admissions where you’ll find readily available race-neutral alternatives capable of attaining student human body variety,” and “employing an undergraduate admissions rules using race as an aspect in admissions.”
In Monday’s ruling, Judge Loretta Biggs said UNC performedn’t discriminate and mentioned the university could continue to use battle as an issue in its undergraduate admissions processes.
“UNC has actually satisfied its burden of demonstrating with quality that the undergraduate admissions regimen withstands strict scrutiny and is also therefore constitutionally permissible,” Biggs had written, including the institution “engages in a highly individualized, holistic admissions program.”
